As geared up about bow hunting as we are...... we're getting ready for our Classics which are coming up real soon. Wes and Justin have their 1 day Ignition Classic on Livingston later in Sept. They've already started fishing to get on top of what the bass are doing. Not so much luck this 1st go around but they have a month to figure it out.

Wes and my CAST Classic on Rayburn is 2 months away. It'll be a 3 day tourney which is great! Can't rely so much on luck, then skill w/ a 3 day tourney! 1st place is usually around $22,000 and they pay out pretty good a ways down. They'll also have a drawing for a skeeter bass boat. I won't hold my breath on that since we're not usually the lucky type!

Didn't see ya Ray. I actually decided to fish the river for a while in the morning. Only caught one cat worth keeping. The shad are just catching all the small fish. I think it would be better to use live perch so the little cats won't be such a hassle. Funny thing, I was fishing the river and caught two largemouth bass about 14 inches long. Caught them while reeling in with a shad on the hook still. The were both caught when I was reeling in across a sandbar in about 1 foot of water. The water was shallow and swift current.

Didn't start fishing for crappie until around 4pm. Bite was slow. Jigs produced nothing. Only minnows worked. Didnt catch any of those long skinny cats again.

Thought I would throw in a pic of a couple of bucks. We also saw 3 doe swimming across the river but I couldn't get my camera out in time.

Caught most of these with minnows. Caught two with a white feather jig but one was too small. White was the only color that seemed to work. I still don't have alot of confidence with jigs...or most likely my presentation of jigs. Catfish wouldn't leave me alone. Most were right around the 14 inch range so I didnt keep them except for those two in the pic which were bigger. I think the catfish robbed me of about half my minnows.

I see an odd trend with the catfish in the lake. They are all the darker blue but they are long and slender kinda like a smaller flathead is and they had a large flat head like a flathead, or maybe a bullhead, but they had a deep forked tail like a blue cat but their backs are flat like a channel cat. I have caught them that way before in the river but not very often. Most the catfish caught on this day were like that ecxept for the two in the pic. Maybe they are just skinny from lack of food. I dont know, they still have a large head. Maybe the skinny body just makes the head look large.
