Hunt Wicked Close teamed up with Hooks and Arrows Adventures for a trophy gar expedition on the Trinity River. The weather was tough and the gar were a little shy, but over all it was a great trip. Things were slow on Saturday. It was overcast and windy and in general, just miserable. Sunday was a little different. The wind still wasn't cooperating but the sun was. Early in the day Rachel nailed the biggest grass carp that I've ever seen. That set the adrenaline level for the rest of the day. Everyone in the boat shot dinks till their arms were sore.
The gnats were swarming like crazy all weekend. Finally Sunday Unclearrow talked us into spraying ourselves with Jovan Musk, “that'll keep the gnats off”, he said. I can't prove one way or the other but I think that smelly crap just made the gnats angry, because they stopped swarming and started biting. I'm not sure but thinking back it sounds a little like the old “pee on it” remedy. On top of it all, when I got home I noticed several suspicious glares from the corner of my wifes eye. It didn't take long for me to realize that I had come back from a “fishing trip” smelling of cheap 80's cologne and I had some explaining to do.
Ken got some good photos of the expedition. He'll post when he gets time or send them to me to post. Rachel gave me a short intro to share here and I'll get that posted later today.
